A Course on Aircraft Structural Repairs - Design and Analysis
A Course on Aircraft Structural Repairs - Design and Analysis
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of structural damage and repair methodologies with a strong focus on engineering judgment, regulatory compliance, and structural integrity.
It covers the impact of cracks and discontinuities on structures, theories of damage and repair, damage detection and assessment, allowable damage limits, and repair approval processes. Through detailed treatment of common damage types—such as dents, cracks, delamination, oversized holes, and corrosion—and corresponding repair techniques including blending, bushings, doublers, bonded patches, and stop-drilling, the course integrates analytical methods, finite element analysis, fatigue and damage tolerance (F&DT), and real-world case studies.
Emphasis is placed on understanding when damage is allowable, when repair is mandatory, and how to design, analyze, and certify repairs in compliance with regulatory and quality requirements.
