Course Overview

Introduction to Initial Airworthiness Certification provides a structured understanding of how a newly designed aircraft progresses from an approved design to an aircraft that can legally enter service. The course begins with the fundamentals of airworthiness, including the relationship between approved design configuration and safe operating condition. It then introduces the international and regulatory framework behind aircraft certification, including the role of ICAO, FAA, and EASA, and explains how regulations and certification requirements are established. You will progressively explore the certification basis, Type Certification process, certification stages, Type Certificate (TC), and Type Certificate Data Sheet (TCDS). The course also explains how aircraft designs are validated between different authorities through bilateral agreements and how approved aircraft designs can evolve through minor and major changes, Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs), and other regulatory mechanisms. The course then follows the journey from Type Certificate to an individual physical aircraft, explaining conformity, Certificates of Airworthiness, and the relationship between initial and continuing airworthiness. It also introduces the regulatory treatment of repairs and approved repair data.
