Type Certificate Data Sheets (TCDS) is a practical course designed to help aviation professionals and students understand one of the key documents used in aircraft certification. The course begins with the fundamentals of a Type Certificate and TCDS, explaining what a TCDS is, why regulators issue it, and how it forms part of the legal definition of an aircraft’s certified design. It then introduces the international foundation through ICAO Annex 8 and explains how national certification systems such as the FAA and EASA establish and maintain their TCDS frameworks. You will learn how to navigate the regulatory basis for TCDS documents, understand the anatomy of FAA and EASA TCDS, and interpret important information such as aircraft models, engine and propeller combinations, weight and balance limitations, control-surface travel, placards, markings, and applicable certification regulations. The course uses Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 examples based on published FAA and EASA Type Certificate Data Sheets to demonstrate how TCDS information is structured, organized, and applied in practice.
